Dinner with the Dockers 2008

Despite a pending match with minor premiers Wests the following day, the Balmain Dockers women's football club sent an 18 strong glamour crew along to the Dinner with the Dockers - the major fundraiser for the men's club. The wine flowed thanks to sponsor Chalice Bridge and a range of items were auctioned to raise money for the club. Diners were entertained by a range of speakers and interviews including Fremantle Docker's Dean Solomon.

Tennis Open 2008

It was a chilly Winter's day but 8 doubles pairs were drawn following a quick sausage sizzle and a couple of beverages!

Playing with the usual Dockers competitive spirit, there were plenty of hits and fewer giggles as the pointy end of the competition drew close.

A tiebreaker between Billie Jean King, and partner Monica Seles versus Dana and Sweets Mauresmo was closely contested but King and Seles were too good.

One of the tightest finals in the history of the open, another tiebreaker sealed the match for Chris Guccione and Helena Sukova!

Michelle Daley Shield

History

In 2002, Michelle Daley, a Balmain player, suffered a serious injury during a match between Balmain and Wests. Subsequently Michelle underwent two liver transplants. In 2003, Balmain and Wests played a charity match to raise funds for the RPA transplant unit. This is now an annual preseason event.

2008 Charity Match

On Saturday 29 March, Wests and Balmain headed to the new home of women's AFL, Mahoney Park to contest the annual charity shield.

The Dockers led at the half time break by 8 points but Wests played a strong third quarter to lead by two goals at the final break. The game had a nail biting finish with Balmain player Alison Parkin having a do or die shot on goal at the final siren. Wests won the game by 5 points. The final score  5 3 33 to 4 4 28

Thanks to everyone who donated prizes for and bought tickets in the monster raffle raising almost $1000 for the RPA transplant unit. Thanks also to Wests for running the BBQ and umpires.

2007 SWAFL Presentation Dinner

A fifteen strong table of players attended the annual SWAFL presentation night. Seven players polled votes in the competition best and fairest. Natasha Devlin polled strongly and lead much of the count but was defeated narrowly by one point.

Still - a great record for Balmain who have a had a player in top two for the past three years.

Congratulations to the recipients of all major awards and the SWAFL committee for organising a great night.

Camping Trip and Golf

The annual camping trip was again a big hit. Club KV went off and the KV Ambrose 9 hole championship was closely contested by 5 teams.

The winners with a record 40 off the stick were Coach Daz, Kylie Sweets, Jules and ring in Stace!

No video evidence from 2007 but click HERE to view golfing highlights from 2006! Pretty much same same!

Tennis Open

Come as your favourite sports star was the theme for the annual Balmain Open Tennis Tournament. Coach Daz dominated with dubious assistance from Nay.
